The area around Backersvej on Amager was originally an apple orchard and today appears as a mixed development of residential buildings, lower institutional buildings and larger single garden villas.

The project replaces an existing dilapidated villa and mediates the scale transition from the high rise to the south to the lower rise to the north and finally to the villa structure and garden space.

The building is divided into 2 openly connected volumes of 4 and 5 storeys respectively, so that the garden space from the villa structure is drawn through the building and out to Backersvej.

A front garden with apple trees will be created as a friendly tribute to the historical setting.

The project consists of 27 youth residences with access via the east-facing greened balconies and private balconies to the west, as well as a communal roof garden for living and urban gardening.

The project is to be built in CLT (Cross laminated timber) and clad with greened wooden slats and integrated solar panels and sedum roof surfaces.
