Region Zealand and Novo Nordisk have joined forces to establish the Steno Diabetes Center Sjælland (SDCS). The ambition is to lift diabetes efforts across all stakeholders in Region Zealand. The SDCS in Holbæk will house both the Holbæk Diabetes Clinic and the Regional Unit, both of which will be located in existing premises in the Akaciegården buildings. Through a transformation of the beautiful buildings from 1889, Mikkelsen Arkotekter adds modern elements with a focus on simplicity and honesty in relation to the listed building and creates a new diabetes centre.

SDCS in Holbaek will function as a treatment, research and knowledge centre, where people with diabetes and their relatives are the natural focus of the centre's activities, organisation and physical environment. The physical potential and qualities of Akaciegår will be supported and exploited to create a welcoming and "non-hospital" environment. The diabetes clinic consists of consultation rooms, treatment and examination rooms, laboratories and test rooms, a transition clinic and reception and waiting areas. Office space and clinical research space will be established adjacent to the Regional Unit in a Knowledge Community. The existing Paediatric and Adolescent Outpatient Clinic will form part of the overall Diabetes Clinic. The regional unit consists of office space for the unit staff as well as meeting and teaching rooms.
