DANSKE ARK: What creates value in construction?
How can our physical environment contribute to value creation? With the documentary series "Who are we building for", Danske Ark focuses on social sustainability, architectural ambitions and universal design in the construction industry, with a lot of good examples.
Mikkelsen Arkitekter is featured in several of the films, thanks to our project Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, Northern Europe's largest center for the prevention and treatment of diabetes - a building that rethinks architectural solutions for the modern citizen. The project is carried out in collaboration with VLA.
Inside, all communal and waiting areas have been reimagined so that the architecture itself promotes a healthy lifestyle and converts waiting time into active time around the themes of diet, exercise and education. The choice of materials stimulates the senses and expresses quality - likewise, the warm wooden floors and ceilings that serve as the primary interior material were chosen as studies show that wooden interiors reduce stress. Users of the house can relax and feel at home.
The vast green landscape around Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen inspires and motivates visitors to change their lifestyle - the beautiful smaller and larger gardens and a magnificent public roof garden provide a biodiversity hub with varied vegetation and result in a calm and educational space - both inside and out.
