SDCC is a finalist for ArchDaily's Building of the Year!

Out of 4,000 nominees, 75 remain and SDCC is one of them.

4,000 architecture projects from around the world were nominated for ArchDaily's 15 architecture awards in early February. After two weeks of open voting, the number was drastically reduced to just 75 finalists.

15 Danish projects were included in the initial round of 23 nominations, but now only two Danish architectural gems remain, and Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) is one of them!
Mikkelsen Arkitekter has built the 24,000 m2 healthcare building in collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and with STED as landscape architects. SDCC is in the Healthcare Architecture category.

Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) is Northern Europe's largest center for the prevention and treatment of diabetes. The center is located at Herlev Hospital and specializes in outpatient treatment, research and prevention of diabetes as well as training of healthcare professionals.

SDCC appears as a warm and welcoming building with a strong connection to outdoor areas, giving patients and citizens a 'homely' and safe environment despite frequent or complex treatment processes. The choice of materials strives to avoid common hospital associations and is based on a Nordic material expression that stimulates the senses and expresses quality. Inside on the ground floor, all communal and waiting areas have been rethought so that the architecture itself promotes a healthy lifestyle and converts waiting time into active time around the themes of diet, exercise and education.

ArchDaily is the world's most read architecture media with 18 million visitors and almost 300 million views per month. The winners of the various categories are expected to be announced on February 22.
