Mikkelsen Architects is prequalified to bid for New Center for Diabetes (CfD), Møllegade in Copenhagen

Mikkelsen Architects, together with MOE, Leth & Gori and Kristine Jensen's Design Studio, has been prequalified to bid for the assignment as general consultant in connection with the establishment of the New Center for Diabetes (CfD), Møllegade in Copenhagen.

Diabetes is one of the fastest growing chronic diseases in the world. Every year, between 1,600 and 1,800 new Copenhageners are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Against this background, it is expected that the demand for rehabilitation at the Centre for Diabetes will increase to 2,000 per year in the coming years, which means that new and larger physical facilities will have to be established for the Centre for Diabetes if it is to meet the growing demand.

The new CfD of approximately 3,000 m2 will be located on Møllegade in De Gamles By on Nørrebro. It is intended to be a recreational breathing space that creates a link with De Gamles By and the surrounding local area, and there will be a focus on movement, health and good food. The vision is also for the building to open up to citizens, who can run voluntary activities such as cooking, training and networking, as well as hosting events for all Copenhageners, such as community dining, where the focus is on how to live a healthy and active life through food and community.
