Østre Kapel: From dead chapel to living meeting place

Come to the Open House in Østre Kapel on Architecture Day on October 7. October 7th from 15:30-17:30 and see the preservation-worthy chapel, which is almost intact from its construction over 100 years ago.

We show and explain a little about the upcoming transformation of the chapel into a new theater for Sydhavns Teater and a cultural center for the local area.

Nikolaj Rahbek Ernst from Mikkelsen Arkitekter talks about how to transform a building and create a modern meeting place for all city stakeholders.

The ambition is for Østre Kapel to become an attractive stage where both professionals and amateurs in theater, dance, readings and performance can meet. We will talk about how we can make room for leisure life in cities and what it requires.

Østre Kapel is a preservation-worthy building from 1913, located at Vestre Kirkegård in Copenhagen. Therefore, the building is undergoing a transformation where the chapel's architectural features are preserved and used as the theater functions require. The project places great emphasis on material sustainability with a focus on recycling and upcycling of materials.
