Albertslund post office is being transformed

Residential and commercial transformation

Mikkelsen Arkitekter is working on a project together with Momentum+ where we are converting the old post office in Albertslund to commercial and residential use. The building is located on Albertslund's city square with all opportunities within walking distance.

Preservation and further development of existing building

The building is designed as a 2-storey building with 2 stacked towers of 8 and 9 floors respectively. Shops and outward-facing functions on the ground floor ensure urban life and activity, while parking is integrated into the building.

Mikkelsen Arkitekter takes a highly sustainable and innovative approach to the development of the project and strives for a very low carbon footprint. The project is based on the reuse of the existing concrete structure, thereby minimizing the environmental impact significantly. New tower buildings and new facades are built according to state-of-the-art sustainable principles with a high degree of integration of wood.

Dialogue with existing architecture

We want the building to respect and enter into an active dialog with the existing urban context. We aim for an architecture where the history of the site and the transformation of the old post office itself is staged in a dialog between the visible concrete shell and new architectural elements such as facades and other complementary parts in wood, glass and brick. We envision a green oasis that in itself tells a sustainable and important story, while also relating to the architecture of the neighboring buildings.
