Stig Mikkelsen speaks at Sustainable Labs Halifax 2023

Sustainable Labs Halifax 2023, The road to net zero: Reinforcing for climate change

Stig Mikkelsen is today speaking at the Sustainable Labs Halifax 2023 conference, together with our client and part of our consulting team, on our current project in Toronto, the Lash Miller extension at the University of Toronto.

The presentation is about designing the self-driving lab of the future: artificial intelligence, automation and acceleration of research. The purpose of the presentation is to discuss how to plan and design for a radical new paradigm that moves away from traditional research chemistry to integrated artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics and high-throughput automation.

How do we decide which building infrastructures are important for future flexibility and scalability, given the limited information available today? How do designers identify system priorities to build into the design while preserving the capabilities and capital required to make changes in the future? How do we move forward with only limited knowledge to make robust labs today into resilient labs tomorrow?

Stig Mikkelsen, Brandon R. Sutherland, Iyonne Rippie and Amanda Hamilton Fics will answer these and many other questions in the presentation, based on the current designs of Lash Miller's automated AI labs and self-driving labs.
