Site update for Lash Miller, University of Toronto

The expansion of the Lash Miller building is progressing! The basement work has just been completed and work is now moving up to the 2nd floor.

The construction process involves installing the formwork for concrete piers and ribbed decks, pouring the concrete, removing the formwork and repeating the process on the next floor until the building is complete.

The building's load-bearing structures are designed to meet the various program and space requirements and ensure future adaptability. An in-situ cast-in-place ribbed deck structure on a concrete column grid is used to reduce concrete consumption by 20% compared to flat decks. The 11 meter span ensures flexibility in organizing lecture rooms and laboratories with circulation around workstations and maximum daylight.

The project is being carried out in close collaboration with the University of Toronto and consultants Cumulus Architects, Arup Engineering, mcCallumSather, Urbacon and a number of sub-consultants.

Mikkelsen Arkitekter is the lead architect on the project and we look forward to delivering the extension to the University of Toronto campus in summer 2026.
