Kedelhuset, Dansehallerne, Carlsberg City
Mikkelsen Arkitekter is responsible for transforming the listed Kedelhus in Carlsberg City into the new centre for dance, choreography and culture at Dansehallen. A kettle with a wide range of dance and choreography performances, festivals, talks, conferences and daily training.
Since 1925, the boiler house has produced hot water and energy for Carlsberg's beer production and will now be the setting for the artistic expression of dance. It will be a unique encounter between the free movement of the body and the raw weight of the industrial cathedral. In the large industrial hall, a stage will be set up for large performances, while smaller, intimate performances will be shown in a so-called "black box", which will be set up in the free-standing box that also houses the foyer, studios, etc. The ground floor will be equipped with rehearsal studios, administration, dressing rooms, foyer, bar and restaurants
Thanks to the Kedelhuset Building Fund, Dansehallerne, everyone who has patiently helped along the way and the Danish Agency for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage for their constructive dialogue on safeguarding the listed buildings.
Special thanks to the Augustinus Foundation, the A.P. Møller Foundation, Realdania, the Local and Construction Fund, the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, the Carlsberg City Development Company and the City of Copenhagen for generously securing the project's financial foundation.
